LISTEN HERE: PCRM’s Dr. Neal Barnard
Join HealthyPlanet’s Bob DiBenedetto for a discussion with PCRM’s iconic, longtime diet/health researcher Dr. Neal Barnard, MD, FACC. They discuss some powerful, recent research covering topics from avoiding and surviving COVID-19 to preventing and reversing a variety of lifestyle-related conditions.
Dr. Barnard will also share some advice and resources that will help you substitute healthful, 100% plant-based recipes for the animal foods you may currently be eating daily, and yes, even for a Thanksgiving feast–without the turkey!
Tune in to hear:
• The result of two recent studies showing that those eating a plant-based diet had anywhere from a 40- 73% reduction in the most severe symptoms of COVID-19.
• How those on a Keto diet had a 48% increased risk of severe COVID-19.
• The key foods to avoid and include to prevent and even reverse diabetes. (Hint: It’s not bread and rice!)
• How a new study published by the North American Menopause Society in the journal Menopause found a plant-based diet rich in soy reduces moderate-to-severe hot flashes by 84%–and led to significant weight loss!
• Why hot flashes in women in Japan were rare until they took on a more western diet, with more meat and less rice.
• How studies have shown that drinking milk resulted in a 34% increase in prostate cancer.
• How Thanksgiving without animal products is easy to do by just making simple substitutions.
• How the objection of one young medical student (named Neal Barnard) to attending a lab that required practicing on live dogs, grew into PCRM’s success in getting rid of all animal medical labs from all medical schools in the US and Canada!

In 2016, he founded the Barnard Medical Center in Washington, D.C., as a model for making nutrition a routine part of all medical care.

In 2018, he received the Medical Society of the District of Columbia’s Distinguished Service Award. He has hosted four PBS television programs on nutrition and health.
Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, Dr. Barnard received his MD degree at the George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the same institution. He practiced at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York before returning to Washington to found the Physicians Committee.
