Fact-Checking Trump’s Unprecedented Assault on
Our Health, The Environment

… And TRUTH

LISTEN HERE: Fact-Checking Trump’s Unprecedented Assault on Our Health, The Environment, and Truth

Show Description:

In this special edition of HealthyPlanet, host Bob DiBenedetto provides a point-by-point exposé of the current administration’s aggressive rollbacks of New York and Federal environmental safeguards. From the “Magna Carta” of environmental laws (NEPA) to the attempt to dismantle the 2009 EPA Endangerment Finding, we examine why “truth-telling” is the most vital tool we have in what is a dark time for our climate and our life support system.

Key Highlights from the Broadcast:

An Unforgivable Silence and Betrayal: Highlighting the fundamental betrayal of the American public by Donald Trump, his EPA, and others in his administration. While they aggressively attack clean energy, they have maintained an unforgivable silence regarding the human cost – failing to acknowledge even a single death caused by air pollution despite the hundreds of thousands of American lives lost annually.

The Architects of Deception: An exploration of how the Citizens United ruling has allowed the fossil fuel industry to buy political influence, shifting the EPA’s focus from protecting public health to advocating for the very polluters it is meant to regulate.

The Suppression of Science: A look at the Trump administration’s cancellation of the congressionally mandated National Climate Assessment and the firing of 400 scientists – a deliberate attempt to keep the public in the dark about the local impacts of a warming world.

The UN Address Fact-Check: A deep dive into Donald Trump’s 2025 Address to the UN, debunking multiple false or misleading statements on the “Global Cooling” myth, Germany’s transition to clean energy, and more. In one instance the President claimed Germany was “opening coal plants all over.” The truth is that Germany was committed to closing coal plants, and was doing so at a record pace.

The “Contrarian” Working Group: Exposing the secretive panel of five handpicked climate contrarians used by the EPA to challenge the Endangerment Finding, bypassing decades of peer-reviewed research in favor of industry-funded narratives.

The Economic Reality: Analyzing data from Yale and the Union of Concerned Scientists to show that air pollution costs the U.S. $600 billion annually and causes 230,000 premature deaths domestically.

Expert Insights: The show closes with excerpts from Nobel Laureate Al Gore and the Climate Reality Project, focusing on the health impacts of pollution from Louisiana’s “Cancer Alley” to the Trump administration’s cancellation of lawsuits intended to stop illegal pollution in marginalized communities.

Pathways to Unity: Why safeguarding our air and water is a bipartisan imperative rooted in common-sense public health and the accountability of our leaders.
